
KATHMANDU — The sequel to the hit Nepali film Una Ko Sweater has been officially announced. Titled Kaleji – Una Ko Sweater, the film was announced from the stage of the third INFA International Nepali Film Award ceremony held in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Written and directed by Nabin Chauhan, the film is scheduled to go on floors after Dashain, with the production team targeting a worldwide release in 2027.
Announcing the title design on social media, Chauhan said the world of Una Ko Sweater is returning with a new hope, story and journey. According to him, Kaleji – Una Ko Sweater will not simply be a sequel but another chapter in the lives of the characters and their unfinished journey.
The film will also feature acclaimed Indian writer and actor Piyush Mishra. Chauhan revealed that Mishra agreed to join the project after spending considerable time reading the script and watching Una Ko Sweater.
Chauhan said the sequel is being made in response to the strong demand from audiences, many of whom wanted to see the unfinished journey of the characters continued. The filmmaker added that the new film will explore the world of Una Ko Sweater on a broader scale.
Built around the theme “Art transcends borders,” the sequel will continue the unfinished love story of Dharanidhar and Phool, with the story beginning in Sikkim.
The popular on-screen pair Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar will reprise their respective roles as Dharanidhar and Phool. Alex Paras and Pariksha Limbu will also appear in key roles, while Piyush Mishra will have a special role in the film.
The film will feature co-writing by Abhishek Subedi, with Chauhan serving as writer and director. The remaining cast and technical team will be announced soon. The production will bring together technicians from both Nepal and India.
The original Una Ko Sweater, a romantic drama, became one of the biggest Nepali hits of 2082 BS, earning around NPR 120 million at the domestic box office. It also performed strongly in India, where it reportedly grossed around INR 15 million (approximately NPR 24 million) and completed a 51-day theatrical run.
Songs including “Phool,” “Makhamali,” “Kafle,” and “Chainejo Jindagani” became popular among audiences and listeners.
The film also received major recognition at various award ceremonies. It won Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress at the National Film Awards and secured nine awards at Saturday’s INFA Awards, including Best Director, Writer, Actor, Actress, Song and Music.
It has also won Best Film, Director and Actor at the Karnali International Film Festival and Best Film, Director, Writer and Background Music at the Nepal Critics Award. With these recognitions, Una Ko Sweater has won 19 awards to date, according to the production team.
