NCFT’s Anantarūpavitānam Blends Nepal’s Cultural Heritage with Contemporary Couture

LALITPUR, October 10, 2026 — Nepal’s cultural heritage took on a contemporary fashion identity at Namuna College of Fashion Technology (NCFT), where 54 graduating designers presented six distinctive collections at the 21st graduation fashion show, Anantarūpavitānam, held at The Plaza, Pulchowk, Lalitpur.

Inspired by the theme “Cosmic Threads of Heritage: Nepal Beyond Time and Universe,” the showcase explored how traditional craftsmanship, indigenous textiles, spirituality, nature and futuristic concepts can be reinterpreted through contemporary fashion.
The runway featured 54 original designs across six collections, each offering a different perspective on Nepal’s cultural identity and its evolving relationship with fashion.

Traditional Craftsmanship Meets Contemporary Design
The opening collection, Forged by Heritage, drew inspiration from Paubha art, temple woodcarving, traditional weaving, brasswork and sacred architecture. Architectural silhouettes, textured surfaces and a palette of crimson, black and gold translated Nepal’s artistic traditions into contemporary couture.
Sustainability and agricultural heritage shaped Terra Sutra — Threads of Regeneration. Inspired by rice, wheat, maize, tea and millet, the collection explored modular silhouettes, adaptable garments and experimental materials, connecting rural traditions with environmentally conscious design.

Meanwhile, Nepalese Gilded Spine celebrated the jewellery traditions of Nepal’s diverse communities, including the Magar, Tamang, Newar, Madhesi, Sherpa, Brahmin, Tharu, Gurung and Rai communities. Contemporary silhouettes, Dhaka textiles and vibrant colours offered a fresh interpretation of traditional adornment as an expression of cultural identity and belonging.

Himalayan Life and Feminine Power on the Runway

The collection The Shape of Returning, presented under the theme “Nomads of Eternity,” explored the seasonal migrations of Himalayan herders and their connection with nature, animals and home. Wool craftsmanship, wet and needle felting, and experimental textile treatments shaped garments inspired by movement, resilience and the Himalayan way of life.
Drawing from Nava Durga and Goddess Laxmi, Abhaya-Shakti — The Power of Fearlessness presented feminine strength through sculptural structures, warrior-inspired forms, fluid silhouettes and luminous embellishments. The designs explored courage, protection, prosperity and grace through a contemporary couture perspective.

KALPA SUTRA Imagines the Future of Nepali Fashion

Concluding the fashion presentation, KALPA SUTRA explored the intersection of Nepali heritage, artificial intelligence, cosmic evolution and futuristic couture.
Concepts including Cosmic Origin, Himalayan Roots, Heritage Bloom, Spiritual Code, AI Awakening, Nebula Flow, Lunar Guardian, Beyond Time and Future Nepal traced a visual journey from ancestral identity to technological imagination.
The collection presented heritage not as a fixed reference to the past, but as a continuing source of inspiration for experimental silhouettes and future-oriented fashion design.

Together, the six collections demonstrated the graduating designers’ engagement with cultural research, textile experimentation, garment construction and contemporary design development.

Through Anantarūpavitānam, NCFT’s graduating class explored how Nepal’s artistic traditions, community identities and natural environment can inform a modern fashion vocabulary. The showcase brought traditional references into conversation with sustainability and innovation, presenting a vision of Nepali fashion that remains connected to its roots while exploring new creative possibilities.
