Artists Urge PM Sushila Karki to Stand Firm Against Propaganda and Lead the Nation with Determination

A group of Nepal’s most prominent contemporary film artists has urged Sushila Karki to remain steadfast in the face of misinformation and propaganda as she leads the country through a critical political transition.

During a meeting with the Prime Minister at Baluwatar on Wednesday, nine popular actors and creators expressed their support for her anti-corruption drive and commitment to holding upcoming elections with clarity and determination.

> “We haven’t come here to demand anything from the government,” they said. “If the country survives, we can always ask for our rights later. First, the country must be saved. The government should move ahead with firm steps—we are with you.”

Many artists expressed gratitude to Karki for taking on the leadership role during a difficult time despite having already earned a place in history as Nepal’s first female Chief Justice known for her integrity.

Actress Richa Sharma said, “At a time when we were feeling uncertain, a mother figure has stepped in to lead. Your simplicity, honesty, and clear communication have given us confidence that the country is moving in the right direction. Please stay unwavering. We are with you.”

They also voiced concern over organized efforts to discredit the government, including false narratives on social media aimed at Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and the administration. The artists urged the government to actively counter such propaganda by making its actions and progress public in a transparent manner.

Actor Bipin Karki remarked, “The Home Minister’s recent statements made us feel the government is not afraid. Our trust has grown stronger. We want to feel even more assured that the government stands firm.”

Similarly, actor Nischal Basnet said, “Because the government is silent, toxic and negative voices are dominating online spaces. If you know you are on the right path, there’s no need to fear. Move ahead confidently. We are with you. What we need now is national unity and positivity.”

Music composer Kali Prasad Baskota added, “It’s easy to provoke society, but difficult to stabilize it. Right now, we’re seeing more attempts to provoke. This is the time to remain alert and united.”

The artists emphasized that the current government, comprising respected figures including a former Chief Justice, represents a rare opportunity to steer the country away from past wrongdoings. They warned against forces trying to destabilize the nation through misinformation.

Actor Bijay Baral stated, “On one side are the people who support change, and on the other, a small group clinging to rejected power. We must understand this clearly.”

In her closing remarks, PM Karki thanked the artists for their support.

> “Support from everyone is essential,” she said. “You have influence in society. Help us counter false propaganda. Point out our weaknesses if any. But when we act with good intentions and face criticism, we will not be intimidated. We are clear about our goals and mission.”

The meeting was attended by artists and creators including Bijay Baral, Sujit Bidari, Nischal Basnet, Bipin Karki, Shan Basnyat, Dibyadev Pant, Kali Prasad Baskota, Richa Sharma, and Karma. The event was coordinated by Pukar Bam.
