For many food lovers, dessert is the best part of a meal. Desserts are meant to offer you the sweet taste that lingers in your mouth, and gives a cloying closure to your meal, and makes it memorable. That is probably why desserts are given more value and importance out of all courses. They are displayed and served lavishly, with sauces, syrups, and decorations. It’s a display of fun and joy, the sweet pleasures of life. Much has been said and written about desserts, because it gives that immense pleasure, and calls for the happy ending of your meal.
On a different note, the past few months have been dull, mundane, and frustrating for all of us, and hopefully, the coming months will be better than the post ones. If you want a break from this boredom and dullness and wish to take a sweet respite from it all, head over to Nepal Cake and Bake at New Baneshwor. It is a café and bakery that has been serving its dessert delicacies for the past five years.
The café is the brainchild of Janak Raj Bharati, a renowned chef with experience of 35 years in the hotel industry. He has worked as Chef and as Executive Chef in many star hotels, and he says his specialty is in baking and making desserts. “After retiring from my job, I thought of sharing my experience and expertise in the form of a bakery, to serve best quality desserts and cakes at economical rates,” says Bharati.
The café specializes in baked goods, and specialties here include Chocolate Ganache Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Coconut Rum Cake, Butterscotch Cake, Chocolate Truffle Cake, Brownie, And Choco Lave Cake, among numerous others. More than 60 varieties of cakes are baked here. According to Bharati, the highest quality chocolates and other raw materials are used in making cakes, so the taste is better than most bakeries in Kathmandu. We sampled a few cakes, all of them were lavishly scrumptious, but the Blueberry Cheese Cake was my personal favorite. Make sure to give it a try when you visit.
The café also serves regular snacks like momo, pasta, and others, but the prime focus is on coffee, cakes, and bread, not to mention the flavourful cookies. You can savor the cakes here at the café or order for any celebrations, they will happily deliver. But why wait for a celebration to enjoy the sweet goodness?
