‘Uunchai’: The true definition of friendship

The movie Uunchai is based on the story of four old friends Amit Srivastava (Amitabh Bachchan), Om Sharma (Anupam Kher), Javed Siddiqui (Boman Irani), and Bhupen (Danny Denzongpa). The friendship between these four friends is enticing. All four are happily living their lives. When Bhupen dies of a heart attack then the story of the movie takes a new turn.

After Bhupen’s death, the other three friends decide to climb the base camp of Mount Everest to fulfill their fourth friend’s wish. Bhupen once expressed his desire to go to Everest base camp with three friends to relive his childhood. Leaving the comfortable life of Delhi, the three friends gather to go to base camp and embark on a grueling journey in the cold. The trio sets out to bury Bhupen’s remains at Everest Base Camp where his soul resides. Indian Hindu tradition involves burying the ashes of the deceased in a sacred place according to his wishes. The best friends are trying for this task but due to their age, the journey does not look easy. A lot of difficulties are created in the journey.

Shraddha Gupta (Parineeti Chopra) takes it upon herself to guide them on the journey to the base camp and at the same time, Shraddha forbids the trio from going on the trek due to their old age. They also reach the base camp to collect the remains of their departed friends. Director Suraj Barjatya excitingly presented this in the movie. The movie tries to show the story of true friendship.

Director Barjatya has tried to explore the dilemmas of old age through the medium of cinematography. Throughout the movie, he tries to tell anyone not to age at will. The basic mantra of the story is ‘Life is one, live it to the fullest.

Amitabh is as energetic in the character of Amit as he is in real life. He has portrayed the ups and downs of his character with passion. Be it emotional scenes or comic scenes, he has managed to leave a mark with his acting. Anupam Kher has been cast as Om. Boman Irani’s acting is excellent. Neena Gupta’s character is also the main attraction of the story. Even in the presence of so many artists, she has stood strong. Parineeti Chopra has done justice to the role of the trek guide. Sarika’s role has emotional scenes, which she pulls off effortlessly. Danny, who appeared in a short role, has done the work of moving the story of the movie. Even though it is a short role, his performance has captivated the audience. The movie’s lyrics and music are average.

In the movie, an attempt has been made to adjust aspects like old age, life with time, changes in relationships, and changes in the thinking of the new generation in the story of four friends. Natasha Malpani Oswal and Mahaveer Jain produce the Rajshree Productions movie. The story of Sunil Gandhi is written by Abhishek Dixit.
