
Kathmandu, March 10 – The 8th edition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) has officially started its ticket booking session from February 20. Organized by the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy, the festival is set to take place from Chaitra 7 to Chaitra 11 (March 21–25, 2025), showcasing a diverse selection of films from across the globe.
According to the organizers, ticket prices have been set at Rs 100 for students and Rs 400 for the general audience, allowing access to screenings throughout the day. NIFF has also partnered with Khalti, a digital wallet, for seamless ticket bookings.
Shambala to Open the Festival
NIFF’s Creative Director Rasik Pathak announced that the opening movie for this year’s festival will be Shambala. The festival will screen 87 films from 40 countries, selected from over 600 submissions from 70 countries. Notably, some of these films have already been featured at prestigious events like the Busan and Cannes Film Festivals.
Screenings and Events at NIFF 2025
The films will be screened at QFX Cinemas in Civil Mall and Chhaya Center, with additional panel discussions and debates scheduled at the Nepal Tourism Board.
This year, NIFF has introduced a new competition category for films related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) or those created using AI technologies. The NIFF Secretariat believes this initiative will help introduce audiences to emerging trends in cinema and storytelling.
Awards and Recognition
NIFF will honor films in various categories, including Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, and several national and international awards. Winners will receive cash prizes as part of the recognition.
